How Much Money Do I Need To Invest For An E-2 Visa?

The amount you need to invest to acquire an E-2 visa depends on the nature of the business you create or purchase. There is no minimum amount that needs to be invested for an E-2 visa. However, investments usually start at around $100,000.

To Qualify as a “Substantial Amount Of Capital” By The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Your Investment Amount Must:

  • A significant combination of funds and/or assets that can generate profit and also be subject to a partial or total loss if the business fails.

  • Must serve the total costs of purchasing a business or creating a new one. This might include building, renovations, permits, and daily operations.

  • Enough funds to ensure the investor’s financial commitment to the success of the business.

  • The investment must be higher than the lower initial enterprise cost.

  • The investment must be enough to suggest that the investor will develop the business to success.

  • Proven that the funds have been obtained legally.

If I Am Not Approved For My E-2 Visa Will Lose My Investment?

Sometimes the funds are at risk since there are circumstances that they are invested before the visa is approved. However, if you are buying an existing business, we ensure the funds are held in escrow. This escrow ensures that your investment is only released to the seller if the visa is approved. If the E-2 visa application is denied, the funds go back to the buyer/investor.

If you are coming abroad, we recommend finding an existing business and having a purchasing contract contingent on the E-2 visa issuance.
